Tadaaki Kuwayama (b. 1932, Nagoya) broke from his traditional Nihonga mineral pigment training soon after he moved from Japan to New York in 1958, following his graduation from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. Following his first solo show in 1961 at Green Gallery, he started to make monochromatic and geometric works that marked his role in American Minimalism.
